A NC native, Scott hails from Norwood, NC, afterwards moving to Raleigh to attend NC State University. Upon earning his degree, he entered the health and safety field where he has been ever since. Splitting his 30+ years between private industry and public service, Scott has a broad perspective on challenges employers face every day. Over the years he has spent time in safety and health consulting, construction safety, time with both compliance and consultative services at NCDOL, safety and health in a university setting and prior to his current position, as the Director of Safety and Risk Management with NC DOT. Please feel free to talk with Scott about his past experiences and more importantly, the focus of NCDOL OSHA over the past year.

Mr. Ronald Reed is The EI Group’s Senior Program Manager for Workplace Violence and Active is accustomed to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and is known for his dynamic verbal communications skills.  He maintains a Security Clearance of Top Secret, Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) as of 1 March 2014 with Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI).  Ron received a bachelor’s degree in History & Political Science from Old Dominion University and served in the Special Operations Marine Training Group based in Camp LeJeune.

PJ is a registered Professional Engineer, a Certified Energy Manager and has worked in the manufacturing business for 6 years, all with Corning.  Prior to joining Corning, PJ worked for AECOM, formerly URS, in electrical design for the nuclear power industry for 6 years.  PJ graduated from University of New Orleans with a BS in Electrical Engineering.

PJ is currently the Business Continuity Program Manager for Corning’s Optical Fiber and Cable business as well as the Assistant Division Energy Manager.  He is responsible for Corning’s business continuity initiatives inclusive of managing and evaluating risk to global operations.  Previously, PJ was a Facilities Electrical Engineer also in Corning’s Optical Fiber and Cable business. His previous responsibilities included oversight of the facilities power distribution system for ten facilities worldwide including executing electrical and multi-discipline projects.

PJ married Denise in October 2015 and they have two daughters, Keegan (4) and Palmer (2).

He graduated from Western Carolina University and has been in Western NC for all of his life. He is married to his high school sweetheart. They have two kids and three dogs. He loves to travel but after work most days you will find him outside playing with the kids, grilling or tinkering with his Jeep. He is active in his church and community and loves to relax with family and friends.

Amy earned her doctorate from NC State University, maintains professional certifications in radiation safety and has earned numerous awards in health, safety and emergency management areas.   Amy is an adjunct professor in the College of Education at NC State, serves on international safety working groups and keeps pace with two highly energetic teenagers and two dogs!

Mr. Butts holds a Bachelors Degree in Building Construction Management from Michigan State University.

Mr. Barry Maxwell has 29 years of experience in developing and facilitating occupational safety programs for the fields of general industry, construction, education, and healthcare.  He has a Bachelor of Science in Production and Marketing Management and a Master of Science in Occupational Safety.

His professional specialties include inspection and evaluation of construction sites and industrial facilities for potential safety hazards, development of safety and occupational health programs, conducting safety training programs, and scaffolding and trenching inspections.

Some specific training experience includes: (1) develop, market, and present occupational safety & health programs to train personnel from the general industry, construction, and healthcare fields on any / all occupational safety topics, such as confined space, fall protection, trenching, scaffolding, respiratory protection, and cranes & rigging; (2) teaches the OSHA 10 / 30-hour Voluntary Compliance courses for General Industry and Construction since 1996; (3) taught an undergraduate safety class at East Carolina University.
