NC Joins Maryland and Virginia to create SMART-POWER framework

November 8, 2020

The Governors of North Carolina, Maryland, and Virginia have created the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic Regional Transformative Partnership for Offshore Wind Energy Resources (SMART-POWER) as a framework to promote, develop, and expand offshore wind energy. The multi-state partnership seeks to drive economic development, create jobs, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The partnership has committed to increase regulatory certainty, encourage manufacturing of component parts, develop supply chains, share best practices, and promote synergy between industry and the three states signing the agreement.

The US Department of Energy (DOE) estimates the project will support up to 86,000 jobs, $57B in investments, and $25B in economic output by 2030.
