NC Labor Commissioner Will Not Seek Re-election in 2020
Five-term Commissioner of Labor, Cherie Berry will not seek re-election in 2020. Commissioner Berry made the announcement at the most recent Council of State meeting in Raleigh (Tuesday, April 2, ,2019).
In an interview with the News & Observer, Berry said, "I want to leave something when I feel the best about it, and I feel absolutely the best about the Department of Labor right now, and going forward for the next 21 months. So I'll be around for 21 months and going flat out to leave the department in the very best shape we possibly can."
There was a popular 70s song with the lyric “I’d rather leave while I’m in love,” and that is exactly what I am doing. I love my job but most importantly I love the people of #NC!
