NCDEQ Updates Hazardous Substance Cleanup Guidance

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Division of Waste Management (DWM) has updated their hazardous substance cleanup guidance over the past year and has created a comprehensive list of recent changes with links to relevant web pages. Of particular note in this list:

• Updated DEQ Risk Calculator and Risk Assessment Guidance to make the calculator easier to use, and to facilitate better early site cleanup decisions
• A summary of how the Risk Calculator can supplement the DWM Preliminary Soil Remediation Goal (PSRG) and Structural Vapor Intrusion (VI) screening tables
• Newly updated Inactive Hazardous Sites Guidelines for Assessment and Cleanup of Contaminated Sites with combined Registered Environmental Consultant (REC) and standard guidance
• A summary of the Supplemental Vapor Intrusion Guidance – TCE Indoor Air Inhalation Immediate Action Levels and Response with links to the guidance and screening levels
